  6. The zip archive distribution contains the following files:

  8.     Readme.txt        -    This file
  9.     WinGate.exe        -    the main application
  10.     WGSetup.exe        -    A small setup dialog for easier setup
  11.                     (overwrites any previous settings!)
  12.     WinGate.doc        -    A Word for Windows 6 user manual. It is strongly recommended
  13.                     that you read this EVEN IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH WINGATE.

  25. Version 1.3.08 is the final interim release prior to the release of WinGate version 2.0. This 
  26. delay is in the main due to the restructuring of WinGate, and the extent of the changes required.
  27. There are however a few added features.

  31.     * Added POP3 proxy
  32.     * Completely changed key and licensing system (the person who wrote the key generator for
  33.       WinGate gets to take a bow here - I was going to do it anyway, but this was a good
  34.       incentive).
  35.     * Fixed Problem with FTP proxy crashing under NT 4.0
  36.     * General facelift
  37.     * Added "Dial now" button in Dialler tab
  38.     * Changed Dialler Options 
  39.         - removed the take over existing connections option
  40.         - added option to use Synchronous RASDial call (as per version 1.3.04)    
  41.     * Added option to DNS forwarding to control whether DNS request will initiate dialler
  42.     * Added warning dialog on closing WinGate or resetting the dialler if users are connected.

  44. Take a look at the WinGate home pages to see what features are being built into Version 2.0 I hope
  45. you will agree it will be well worth the wait.

  47. IMPORTANT NOTE.
  48.  
  49. If you are currently registered for more than a single user license (i.e you paid for something) 
  50. then you will need a new key for WinGate 1.3.08.  I will be mailing these out automatically to all 
  51. registered holders of 2 user licenses and above.  However in the event of your key not arriving before
  52. 2 April, you should contact me by email.  I have a list of bad email addresses that makes the LA 
  53. area phonebook look like roll-call at the Adolf Hitler fan-club annual general meeting.

  59. Version 1.3.07 is an interim release due to missing deadlines on the release of version 1.4 (well
  60. at least I am honest).

  62. There are a couple of changes over 1.3.06

  64.     * got rid of the dreaded Socket-error 0
  65.     * optimised a few more sockets calls, so things should be a bit quicker.
  66.     * expiry date moved out to 31 March 1996.

  75.     * Dial on demand - now uses asynchronous RasDial call (so you get more feedback)

  77.     * Sockets - problem with various hangs etc fixed (message queue was locking up).

  87.     * Sockets - problem with unreliable connects fixed (problem with Microsoft class).

  103. Version 1.3 is a medium sized upgrade to version 1.2b, and has the following added features

  106.     * a couple of bug fixes.

  111. If you have been running version 1.2, do not run the setup program, simply replace (back up first) 
  112. your current copy, and run WinGate version 1.3.  This will update your registry settings for the new version
  113. and keep your old settings intact.

  119. Version 1.2b is another interim update to version 1.2a, and fixes the following bugs:
  120.  
  121.     * Bug in Socks server with misbehaved Socks clients causing WinGate crash
  122.     * Fixed some timing problems in the WWW Proxy, which caused occasional problems submitting
  123.       Forms in Netscape.
  124.     * SOCKS, FTP data, and WWW Proxy transfers now run as idle threads, consuming
  125.       much less processor.

  129. This file was released on the 29th November 1995.

  131. Version 1.2a is an interim update to version 1.2 (released 25 November 1995), and 
  132. fixes a couple of bugs - specifically:
  133.     
  134.     * Sockets not being made available for re-use properly under Windows95 causing lockup
  135.     * Telnet gateway was sending a single new-line character to remote sites upon connect
  136.     * DNS patch is now DNS relaying under a settings tab, and can be shut down and restarted    
  137.  
  138. Note, when running under Windows95, you may experience Socket-error 10055 errors 
  139. when trying to connect under heavy load (i.e around 35 - 40 active sessions).  This seems to be
  140. a limitation in the operating system, running out of sockets.  Under WindowsNT I have not found
  141. any limitations

  144. Changes from WinGate V1.0.03 to version 1.2 are:

  146.     * Multi-threaded operation for smoother access.
  147.     * New Interface - tabbed dialogs.
  148.     * Able to monitor active sessions and users.
